PRESIDENT'S PICKS
The American Legion Auxiliary is the largest patriotic women's service organization in the world, with nearly 1 million members. Affiliated with The American Legion, the Auxiliary is a veterans' service organization with members in nearly 10,000 American communities. The organization sponsors volunteer programs on the national and local levels, focusing on three major areas: veterans, young people and the community.
Greetings American Legion Auxiliary members, it doesn't seem like the new year is already here. Our unit has been busy this past year, donating homemade food items to our ND National Guard troops who responded when Dickinson had the tornado, homemade items for our troops in Iraq, baking cookies for our Veterans who are in Nursing Homes and Retirement Centers. At this time we are short three people in order for us to make goal on membership.
If you know of a girl who is currently a junior in high school, and would like to attend Girls State, please contact me. If you know of someone who is home schooled and is still a junior, they are also eligible. If you would like to learn more about Girls State, please go to their website. Last year we had two young women who not only attended Girls State, but also went to Girls Nation. One of them is from Dickinson and the other from Taylor ND.
I would like to take this time to also thank each one of you who have baked cookies, volunteered to help package and deliver, or whatever you may have done for our Auxiliary when I called you. Thanks for your dedication and service to our American Legion family. We must never forget them.
